A Registered Holistic Nutritionist is a professional trained in Natural Nutrition and complementary therapies, whose principal function is to educate individuals and groups about the benefits and health impact of optimal nutrition.
Mainstream medicine does not emphasize the significance of poor nutrition as a major cause of a wide range of health disorders. Although most people are aware of the benefits of sound nutrition, the range of conflicting information available to the consumer is often confusing. Registered Holistic Nutritionists guide their clientele through the maze of information from books, magazines, supplements and diets on the market. They work with clientele to identify and help correct the nutritional causes of diseases, and they are qualified to design personalized diet and lifestyle programs that optimize health.
Registered Holistic Nutritionists recognize the body, mind, spirit connection and the importance of each of these aspects within an individual. They acknowledge that mental and physical well-being are interrelated and work to uncover underlying causes of imbalance within individuals. Registered Holistic Nutritionists preform an in depth assessment taking into account clienteles current health status, symptoms and lifestyle behaviours. The information provided is then interpreted and constructed into a comprehensive, personalized diet and lifestyle program for the individual to assist in guiding them on their journey of optimized health.
The Registered Holistic Nutritionist program is a demanding course of study that is set by the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Schooling takes 1-2 years and involves an extensive education regarding many different aspects along with case studies, practicum hours, subject-specific and board examinations. The Canadian School of Natural Nutrition holds a high standard of excellence with a cumulative minimum average of 80% to graduate. Only after completion of all of these requirements are (R.H.N.) Registered Holistic Nutritionists granted their designation.
